N’Golo Kanté Refused Offshore Payments

We’re not ones to usually praise the bare minimum, but good on you N’Golo Kanté.

According to leaked reports per theScore’s Agence France-Presse, the Chelsea midfielder didn’t take offshore payments that were proposed to him by Chelsea.

“N’Golo is inflexible, he simply wants a normal salary,” Kanté’s tax advisor told Chelsea executives back in May. “…After reading numerous press articles on image rights and tax investigations against players and clubs, N’Golo is increasingly concerned that the set-up proposed to him could be questioned by the tax authorities. … he did not want to take any risks.“

Hooray?

Meanwhile, Chelsea currently find themselves third in the Premier League after 12 matches. They’ve yet to lose, winning eight and drawing four. However, they’re already four points back of Manchester City. Nonetheless, it feels like there’s a title race this season. That’s a big deal. And as it pertains to Chelsea, Kanté is a big part of the reason why.

Plus, it seems like Kanté is an honest footballer! No shady tax stuff here, folks. Let’s celebrate it.

Or we can just focus on his game, of course. After all, Kanté rose to fame with Leicester City during their title-winning season in 2016. After moving to Chelsea the following summer, he won the title again. This time, earning PFA Player of the Year honors in the process. Up next, the French midfielder and Chelsea take on Tottenham November 24.

That’s going to be a big one.
