Claudio Ranieri knows how to win as a manager. After all, he led Leicester City to an improbably title back in 2015-16. But he didn’t last through the following season as performances predictably dropped off. Now he’s back in the Premier League as of Wednesday morning, and he has one mission. That’s to save Fulham’s season.
After 12 matches, Fulham are on just five points. That, of course, has them at the very bottom of the Premier League. Their biggest issue? Defending. 11 goals in 12 matches is far from ideal, but they’ve conceded a league-leading 31. That’s a rate of 2.6 goals per match, which is something that desperately needs to change.
Ranieri has only won top-flight title, but has plenty of managerial experience at notable clubs. Such experience includes stints with Napoli, Fiorentina, Valencia, Juventus, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea and Inter. We can’t wait to see what happens next. Clearly, things just weren’t clicking for Fulham at the PL level. They may very well be in over their head.
But is making this move the right call? Will Ranieri be able to work his magic? At the very least, he has 26 matches to save their season. Plus, they’re just three points from safety for the time being.
