It looks like Liverpool are finally getting an upgrade at center back. But gosh, it’s not going to be cheap.

Van Dijk, 26, has been at Southampton since the 2015 season. And the Saints got him for a song, too, acquiring him from Celtic for a measlyAA?13 million. But now, it looks like he’s taking that next step.
To get their newest defender (reportedly), Liverpool would have to beat out the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City. If true, that’sAhuge for them. The Reds still have issues with their back line, of course. Plus, their goalkeeper situation is pretty messy.
But it’s a step in the right direction for now, at least.
On the season, Liverpool find themselves fourth after 20 matches. They have the second-highest goal tally (46) but are allowing more goals (23) than any other top-four side. In fact, they are the only top-four side that’s allowed more than 20 goals so far.
But stability and passing ability is what van Dijk brings. And, in even better news? Liverpool could have this deal done by the time the winter transfer window opens in January.
UPDATE: It’s officially happening.
