It’s been a few weeks for Real Madrid.
Two days ago, the reigning UCL title holders denied reports suggesting they’d be signing PSG’s Neymar this summer. Rumors are flying fast and furiously of a Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus move. And with the Neymar news in the rear-view for now, PSG’s (and France’s World Cup star) Kylian Mbappé has moved to the forefront.
But Madrid are denying that report as well. Per ESPN’s Jonathan Johnson, there is no deal in place for the French superstar.
“Given the information published in the last few hours regarding an alleged agreement between Real Madrid C.F. and PSG for the player Kylian Mbappé. Real Madrid would like to state that it is completely false,” the statement reads.
And let’s not forget about them changing managers this summer.
Real Madrid find themselves in a very interesting position this summer. While they are coming off their third consecutive UCL title triumph, there are a lot of moving parts. Zinedine Zidane is out at manager, former Spain boss Julen Lopetegui is in. We don’t know what the future holds for Gareth Bale, Ronaldo and even Karim Benzema. Moreover, Barcelona just topped Madrid in the La Liga standings by 17 points this past season.
But as we know, Real typically finds a way. They have all of the financial capability in the world. Ronaldo is still playing at a high level, but they can splash cash on whomever they damn well please. Even if Harry Kane is hell bent on staying at Tottenham Hotspur, we shouldn’t be surprised if Real table a ridiculous offer. If for some reason all three of Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema leave, think of all the cash they’ll have to play with. Maybe that would open up a path for either Mbappé or Neymar. What do PSG get out of that, though? Ideally, they’ve brought in these players to try and finally conquer the Champions League.
Madrid would make the money worth it, but PSG don’t need more money. In other words, it’s silly season. And this isn’t the last time we’ll be hearing rumors like these ones.
