Josh Donaldson hasn’t been right all season long. And while he’s been playing through it, the Blue Jays are placing him on the 10-day DL.
“We’ve placed 3B Josh Donaldson on the 10-day DL (right shoulder inflammation).”
This makes more sense as to why manager John Gibbons didn’t use him as a pinch-hitter Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Donaldson’s shoulder has been bothering him all season long. But he doesn’t seem to know the exact cause.
“I donat want to say the weather had something to do with it, but itas one of those things where you get me going and now if Iam getting ready for a game, I might as well have played it, you know what I mean? Itas not like I can just get off the bench and go out there.”
But here’s where his shoulder is at now: it’s exactly the same.
“Itas the same. There hasnat been any regression but it hasnat drastically improved where I feel 100 per cent about it.”
The 2015 MVP is now in his fourth season with the Blue Jays. Over the previous three, he’s slashing .285/.387/.559 with 94 doubles and 111 home runs. And while his average is down to start the 2018 season (.239/.352/.457), he has three home runs while still showing the ability to get on base at a high rate.
Now he just needs to get healthy. And more than that, the Blue Jays need him to.
