The Arizona Diamondbacks are off to a fine start this season, as is their ace Patrick Corbin. But while that’s happening. Corbin remembers interest from another: the New York Yankees. And to Corbin, playing for the Yankees would be a dream come true. Speaking to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, he says the following:
“I know the Yankees have had some interest in the past, and there were a lot of rumors this winter that got my family excited. It would have been cool. You just want to go where youare wanted, and every team will have an opportunity.”
But he doesn’t stop there. In fact, he says things that might worry fans. But then again, there’s a reason for that.
“It would definitely be great to play there. I grew up a Yankee fan. My whole family are Yankee fans. My mom, my dad, my grandpa, everybody. Really, every generation of my family has been Yankee fans.”
As for Mets fans, Corbin doesn’t have to worry about many of those.
On the season, the D-Backs are leading the NL West with their 15-6 start. But that’s not all. In five starts, Corbin has an ERA/FIP/WHIP of 1.89/1.96/0.66 with 48 strikeouts to just six walks. That’s a 39.3% strikeout rate to just a 4.9% walk rate.
Needless to say, the Diamondbacks wouldn’t want to lose this version of Patrick Corbin. But as we know, there’s plenty of baseball left to go.
