Yu Darvish has reportedly signed a deal with the Chicago Cubs worth $126 million over 6 years.A
“Breaking: Yu Darvish to #Cubs, six year-deal in $150M range, sources tell the Athletic. Pending physical.”
The deal apparently will not reach $150 millionAunless Darvish is stellar in his new home.
“Sources: Chances of Darvish getting to $150M with #Cubs quite slim; would need to win multiple Cy Young awards. His guarantee is $126M over six years, making contract the longest and richest free-agent deal of the off-season.”
This deal is coming at the back end of an offseason that has seen one of the slowest free agent markets in history with many players still unsigned and Spring Training just around the corner.
The four time All-Star joins a stacked Cub’s rotation that includes Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, JosA Quintana and Tyler Chatwood.
Chicago, Aalready Athe favorite to win the NL Central for a third consecutive year, has added a piece in Darvish that helps them rebound from former NL Cy Young Winner Jake Arrieta (who has yet to sign this offseason).
The only worry for Chicago is Darvish’s past history of injurie,s most notably the Tommy John Surgery he received in 2015.
When healthy however, Darvish is nasty good. In his major league career, Darvish has posted an ERA of 3.42, struck out 1021 and has a WHIP of 1.18.
The season is just around the corner so we will see if the Cubs made the right choice in signing Darvish.
Again: Yu Darvish has signed a contract worth $126 million over six years with the Chicago Cubs.
