Yu Darvish is in no rush to sign. But he also has no shortage of options.
Reports today indicate that Darvish has received multiple offers worth over $100 million. However, it remains unclear as to which teams have submitted said offers. But one thing is certain: the market for Darvish is big.
“TheAMilwaukee BrewersAare among the more aggressive teams in on Darvish. And it was reported last month that they made an offer. TheAMinnesota Twins,ATexas Rangers,APhiladelphia Phillies,AChicago Cubs,ANew York Yankees, andALos Angeles DodgersAare all involved, to various degrees.”
But here’s the thing: he has his preference. It’s just unclear whether or not these teams can make the necessary space for him.
“It’s believed Darvish’s preference is to sign with either the Dodgers or Yankees, though a deal with either team could be difficult as both desire to remain under the luxury-tax threshold.”
Yu is coming off his fourth All-Star season. But despite arguably down numbers this past season, his ability places him at the top of the free-agent food chain. The belief remains that the Brewers are going to bring in one front-line starter. That doesn’t necessarily mean Darvish, however. But right now, it’s as good a bet as any.
Let’s not expect a decision too quickly. After all, that doesn’t mesh with how this offseason is going. But it’s coming, probably sooner than others. At this point, how can it not be?
