Tuesday night, Jenny Cavnar made MLB history. She would take over the Rockies’ broadcast booth, becoming the first woman in 25 years to call play-by-play. And the Rockies couldn’t have been more proud.
But even better than that, Cavnar wouldn’t have to wait too long to call her first (and second) home run. Both Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story would blast two-run HRs in the bottom of the first inning.
107 mph off the bat for Nolan and then Story adds a clean shot to the concourse. 464 feet, the longest of his career. 😳 pic.twitter.com/5EWDWPUiyx

“Fire up the fountains…”ACavnar would exclaim during her very first home run call.
Meanwhile, beforehand, she couldn’t have been more excited. We can’t blame her, of course.
“I am very excited about tonight. I’m really honored on the historical context of it, but I’m more so excited for the team effort. We have such a great team of broadcasters, producers, directors – so it’ll be really fun to collaborate with them and do the game tonight.”
Here’s to hoping for much more of this going forward.
