The Boston Red Sox finished the season with the best record in baseball and this has predictably made them slight favorites in the World Series over the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Las Vegas oddsmakers.
This may not surprise most people, of course. Although, the Dodgers aren’t quite underdogs either.
So, it’s important to point out that the Red Sox are only slight favorites to win the World Series. Vegas oddsmakers set the Red Sox at minus-135 favorites in the betting and the Dodgers at plus-115 to win the trophy. This means a $135 bet on the Red Sox pays $100 while a $100 bet on the Dodgers earns $115.
According to ESPN, odds on individual games will be set once pitching matchups are announced for each game.
The Red Sox won a franchise-best 108 games this season, propelling them to a postseason berth — and through to the World Series. (They don’t lose much.) Boston eliminated the New York Yankees and then the defending champion Houston Astros on their road to the Series. The team’s young star talent — such as Jackie Bradley Jr. — excelled in the recent series’. The Red Sox will hope for more of the same from its dominant offense (and pitching).
The Dodgers clawed their way to the World Series. Los Angeles didn’t sail into the playoffs like its opponent; in fact, it needed a Game 163 to determine the NL West division. The Dodgers then knocked out the Atlanta Braves in four games, but needed all seven with the Milwaukee Brewers. (On a very basic level, this means less time between games.) Still, the Dodgers dominant pitching and young talent have propelled the team to a second consecutive trip to the Series. You simply cannot count them out yet.
The Dodgers and Red Sox begin play Tuesday evening. The series begins (and ends, if necessary) at Fenway. Tuesday night’s game will start 8:10 pm EST on FOX.
