Greg Hardy is about to make his professional MMA debut. But it won’t be against just anybody. In fact, Hardy is set to take on former NFL-er Austen Lane on June 12. This would come about during the UFC 224 broadcast this past Saturday night. And Lane cannot wait.
“At the end of the day, when we go in the cage, we’re just going to be two fighters. Obviously we’ll both have some athleticism that has carried over from the NFL, but I don’t consider him former NFL player Greg Hardy, I consider him MMA fighter Greg Hardy, and that’s how I’m going to approach what he’s bringing to the table,” Lane says.
Lane hasn’t seen an NFL field since the 2014 season. He would spend five seasons between three teams — Jacksonville, Detroit and Chicago — racking up just three sacks and 46 tackles across 30 appearances. Meanwhile, Hardy would last see an NFL field back in 2015. Over six seasons, he would rack up 40 sacks and 165 tackles with the Panthers and Cowboys.
In the ring, he has three wins via first-round knockout. His last fight would end in just 14 seconds. Lane, on the other hand, is 4-0 as a professional fighter.
