UFC 223 is shaping up to be a beast of an event. But on Monday, things got even a little more interesting. According to KhabibANurmagomedov, Dana White says his bout with Tony Ferguson is for the undisputed lightweight title.
“I talk with Dana (White), I spoke to everybody about this situation. But they say we are going to fight for a vacant belt, vacant undisputed belt. This is not Conor’s belt, this is not Tony Fergusonas interim belt, this is a vacant belt. And after when we fight (on) the 7th of April, on the 8th of April they are going to make it official – (whoever) wins becomes the real champ.”
But he doesn’t stop there.
“Now Tony Ferguson is still an interim champion. They call (McGregor) the champion, but he isn’t the champ. Whoever wins becomes the real champ.”
Over to you, Dana White.
Conor McGregor, of course, hasn’t fought in the UFC since November of 2016. And it doesn’t appear as though he’s in any rush to do so. But even if Khabib finds success against Ferguson, he doesn’t think a McGregor bout will happen. Plus, there’s no pressure on McGregor from Dana White. There’s no pressure from the UFC at all. But in the meantime, get ready for UFC 223.
It’s going to be a real treat.
