If Daniel Cormier wasn’t done with Jon Jones before, he is now.
The two have fought twice in the past, with Jones winning both bouts. But the second would be changed to a no contest after it was revealed that ‘Bones’ tested positive for turinabol — thus prompting a 15-month ban. Cormier, of course, has just one loss on his professional MMA resume. He’s 21-1 (1) overall. And after beating Stipe Miocic back in July, holds both the heavyweight and light heavyweight belts.
But Jones has a, well, bone to pick with DC. And he made that perfectly clear on his Instagram post Thursday afternoon.
“…USADA keeps calling but you’re not going to pick up the phone because the second you hear them say I’m innocent is the instant the illusion you’ve created shatters. … And while there was “absolutely no intention to use prohibited substances,” it was my intention to kick your ass once again.”
Tough talk from a guy who cannot stay clean both inside and outside of the Octagon. For what it’s worth, Cormier didn’t take that sitting down. In a post of his own, he got as real as it gets with Jones.
“So here we go again Jonny boy,” he starts.
“…I thought there was nothing lower than a cheater but it’s not surprising that you show me a whole new level. You’re a cheater and a SNITCH! Get off my page and go do some coke, or steroids or whatever you losers do in your spare time.”
Of course, record-wise there are few fighters better than Jones. He’s 22-1 (1) with his only professional loss coming against Matt Hamill via DQ (illegal elbows). However, he has two positive tests on his record (and we’re not talking about the cocaine) and was also stripped in April 2015 after violating the UFC’s Athlete Code of Conduct policy. Real stand-up guy that one.
That said, we know what the UFC thinks about conduct. As long as a fighter brings in money, Dana White doesn’t care what you do. Just look at Conor McGregor. So, what we’re saying is…
Get ready for DC/Jones III, fight fans. It’s only a matter of time.
