Saturday night, Conor McGregor would tap out to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. And in doing so, lose a chance to regain his lightweight championship. But while Khabib has to go before the Nevada Commission due to the chaos that followed the event, McGregor is already thinking rematch.
In fact, UFC President Dana White tells ESPN that the Irishman has already called him about it.
“[Nurmagomedov] has to go before the Nevada commission, and we have to see what’s going to happen with Khabib and this whole mess,” White says. “But Conor McGregor has already called me, wanting a rematch.”
That said, White isn’t hear to promise anything just yet. As we know, these things take time. And though it will make him plenty of money down the line, White does have a mess he has to deal with. There are also other options to consider.
“That’s what Conor has asked for. We’ll see what happens with Khabib and what’s next. Tony Ferguson looked amazing. Those two have been lined up three different times to fight and it hasn’t happened. We’ll see how things play out.”
We know how this plays out, of course. White will give Khabib a stern talking to and go from there. There’s simply too much money on the line for him to do anything but that.
