We’d never call an MMA fighter ‘lucky’ to their face. After all, think of just how stupid we’d have to be to do that. But Yair Rodriguez definitely channeled something…special Saturday night in Denver. In a fight he wasn’t winning, Rodriguez had just about run out of time. Until he hit Chan Sung Jung — affectionately known as ‘The Korean Zombie’ — with this elbow.

Again, we’re not implying luck here. Because to be honest, that elbow lands perfectly and we cannot dispute that. Rodriguez definitely did snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, though. Because according to MMAFighting.com’s Shaheen Al-Shatti, judges had Jung ahead before the knockout.

That’s right, fight fans — a UFC finish literally at the buzzer. How about that?
For what it’s worth, UFC President Dana White couldn’t believe it either.
“Craziest finish ever,” White told Laura Sanko on the UFC Fight Night 139 post-fight show (via MMAJunkie’s Mike Bohn).
“There was one second left on the clock when he landed that elbow, and Yair was losing 4-to-1. ‘Zombie’ had the fight in the bag, he had one second to go and, wow, what a finish.”
Undoubtedly, this is something Jung will be thinking about for a while. At least he won’t be alone. This knockout from Rodriguez will stay with UFC fans for years to come.
