Khabib Nurmagomedov says he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather. And ‘Money’ believes the fight will happen. But what does UFC President Dana White have to say? Well, fight fans might not like his answer.
“Don’t pay attention to it,” White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto on Thursday. “First of all, the Mayweather team has not approached us at all. Khabib is under contract with the UFC; we haven’t talked to anybody from the Mayweather team. Floyd is very good at getting his name back out there when he’s ready to.”
White is right, of course. Mayweather knows how to market himself. And now that Khabib is fresh off a win over Conor McGregor, what better time than now?
So, how did this all start? Well, when Khabib ran into CEO of Mayweather Promotions — Leonard Ellerbe — at fights while in Russia.

“Let’s go Floyd, we have to fight now. 50-0 vs 27-0. Two guys, never lose,” Nurmagomedov says in the video. “…Because in the jungle, only one king. Of course I am the king, because he cannot drop (Conor) McGregor, but I dropped him easily.”
But Mayweather didn’t let that go without a response.
“I seen in an interview, he said when he hit Conor McGregor, he knocked Conor McGregor down. He said I didn’t knock Conor McGregor down. OK, Khabib. You got my leftovers. Whoop-dee-do,” ‘Money’ declared.
But Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, says his fighter is definitely open to the idea. And he’s not backing away from it.
“I’m talking to everybody right now,” Abdelaziz told ESPN Thursday. “At the end of the day, Khabib is a UFC fighter. He has a contract with the UFC, and we respect the contract. … But we’re open, if Floyd wants to box Khabib. … You have a guy who is 50-0, a guy who is 27-0. Both have never tasted defeat…”
The money prints itself here. And White has to know that. He doesn’t care if the fight doesn’t make sense — look at Mayweather/McGregor. And, we already know how this will end if Khabib fights him. If the two box, Mayweather will win. If the two do anything else, he won’t. It’s that simple. But nobody is reaching out to White yet (apparently). So it’s all moot.
