Well it’s not going to take long for Austin Rivers to find another NBA home. Over the weekend, the Wizards and Suns would complete a trade for Trevor Ariza. Part of the package going to the Suns in return was Rivers. But almost immediately after the trade became official, the Suns put him on waivers. Then The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that he was likely to end up with the Memphis Grizzlies.
But that no longer appears to be the case.
Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian is reporting that the Grizzlies won’t be signing Rivers after all.
Now hearing from a source that the Grizzlies will not be signing Austin Rivers.

So there’s that.
Things move quickly in the NBA though, so we’ll see if this does indeed come to pass over the next couple of days. In the meantime, Rivers landing on the Grizzlies would be wonderful for him. He would be going from the Wizards (12-18) to the Suns (7-24) albeit briefly, and finally to the Grizzlies 16-14. Instead, it looks like he’ll have to wait and see what happens.
In his seventh season in the league, Rivers is averaging just 7.2 points per game on 39.2 percent shooting. He’s also putting up only 2.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Last season on the Clippers, he put up 15.1 points per game while averaging 33.7 minutes of action.
