LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are the tightest of brothers off the court. But when the Lakers and Heat got together in Miami on Sunday, Wade wasn’t there. Instead, he would miss his seventh game while taking care of his newborn daughter.
James won for the first time in Miami since 2014, but Wade has been spending time in his home in Los Angeles.
“It sucks,” James told Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman. “I can’t even lie to you guys.”
Still, Wade or not, The King had a monster night — scoring 51 points in their 113-97 win over the Heat. With Wade announcing his retirement, James only has one more shot against his friend. That takes place on December 10 in Los Angeles.
“To know that we only had two more games against each other, and one of them isn’t going to happen, it sucked a little bit,” James added. “Hopefully we are both in uniform when Miami comes to L.A. and we can finish this off the right way.”
With the win on Sunday, the Lakers improved to 9-7 on the season. They’re only seventh out West but have won five of their last six games. Up next, James and the Lakers travel to Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers Wednesday night. It’ll be the king’s first game against his former team since leaving for the second time.
This season, he’s averaging 28.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.4 steals across 16 games. Hopefully, he’ll get to play Wade in December.
