Apparently, trade talks between the Heat and Timberwolves over Jimmy Butler were close. Until they weren’t, of course. But according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, they want to restart talks.
“After a proposed deal fell apart over the weekend, the Miami Heat remain interested in restarting talks with Minnesota to acquire All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, league sources told ESPN.”
However, Butler did practice with the Timberwolves today. And that’s a new development, reports Woj.

In his first (and maybe only) season in Minnesota, Butler put up 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists while shooting 35% from long range across 59 games. And for the first time in 13 seasons, the Timberwolves made it to the playoffs.
If he goes elsewhere, though, that dream probably ends just as quickly. Signing Karl Anthony-Towns to the max? Excellent. Still employing Tom Thibodeau? Probably not great. But losing Butler? Well if that happens, it could get ugly in Minnesota.
The fact that he is back at practice, however, is a pretty good sign. Let’s see how long it continues. They open their season Wednesday, October 17 in a night game on the road against the Spurs. Will Jimmy Buckets be around for it?
