Third-year guard Patrick McCaw continues to holdout from the Golden State Warriors. But no matter what the offseason brings, Yahoo’s Chris Haynes reports that the Warriors are bent on keeping him.
“…Although there is interest from rivals in poaching away the versatile 6-foot-7 guard, teams have received word of the Warriors’ intentions and remain hesitant to submit an offer sheet,” Haynes writes.
The problem for McCaw is that he just wants to get some minutes. In two seasons with the Warriors, he’s averaging just 15.9 minutes per contest. And with the star-power they already possess, it’s just difficult to find a spot in the lineup. However, the Warriors aren’t just going to give him up. This is their hands-off warning, so to speak.
For the past couple of seasons, depth has been a real problem for Golden State. But so far it has yet to cost them. They’ve won three of the past four NBA championships. They’re going for a three-peat this season.
McCaw is averaging just 4.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 128 NBA games. But if the Warriors see something in him, then more power to them. After all, their team is likely to look a little different next season. Might as well try to keep the depth you do have, right?
