So, the whole head coaching thing didn’t work out for Hue Jackson. But the former Cleveland Browns sideline-roamer is already back in the NFL. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, he’s rejoining Marvin Lewis and the Cincinnati Bengals in an unknown capacity.

But seriously, this isn’t too big of a surprise. After all, Hue Jackson did say last week that he wouldn’t hesitate to take an assistant role. Additionally, the Bengals did fire their defensive coordinator earlier today. Though, Marvin Lewis will be the one taking over most of the defensive duties. Still, Hue and Lewis go way back.
From 2004 through 2006, Jackson coached Cincinnati’s wide receivers. In 2012, he took over as secondary coach before coaching the running backs in 2013. Then from 2014 through 2015, Jackson took over as the team’s offensive coordinator. So we’ll see where he fits in with the Bengals, but this move makes sense. He knows the organization, for starters. And he’s close with Marvin Lewis, which helps plenty.
Now it’s up to the Bengals to turn their season around. After losing in embarrassing fashion Sunday against the Saints, they still sit at 5-4. But their playoff hopes are teetering. Wideout A.J. Green is set to miss more time than originally thought. We don’t know what to think of this team going forward.
One thing is certain though, and it’s this. Not even the Browns could kill Hue’s career.
