Once again, this is undoubtedly a one-year “prove it” deal. But on the other hand, it’s one that makes sense. Mathieu has all the talent in the world, but his knees are in less than good shape. However, playing behind Houston’s defensea��especially if everyone stays healthya��is a great decision.
The Texans are coming off a rough 4-12 season, but injuries to Deshaun Watson and J.J. Watt would ultimately derail them. Plus, they did not have the best defensive coordinator for the job. There’s no reason the Texans shouldn’t be competing for the division next season. But again, it comes down to health.
And Mathieu is as big of a question mark as any in that regard.
