The Jacksonville Jaguars are suspending DB Jalen Ramsey for one week of practice plus their next preseason game. And no, it’s not because he stayed in the locker room during the national anthem this weekend.
Per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Ramsey will miss a week for his post-practice rant on Sunday. Teammate Dante Fowler, who got into the altercation following said practice that prompted the rant, will be joining him. ESPN’s Adam Schefter adds the following:
“Jaguars leave Tuesday for Minnesota to spend week practicing with Vikings before playing them Saturday night. Neither Dante Fowler nor Jalen Ramsey making the trip.”
This probably isn’t the worst news. Anything to cut down on unnecessary injuries, right? The most important thing during preseason is to stay healthy. Ramsey is an All-Pro cornerback. Missing one preseason game will be fine. It’s not the end of the world.
Responding to all of this drama, he had this to say on Twitter:
“I’m always gone take up for my teammates kus I know what type of men and players they are forreal! Love my dawgs! If you don’t like it, oh well. God bless.”
In the meantime, the Jaguars are coming off a division-winning season at 10-6. Not only that, but they’d come within one game of a Super Bowl appearance last season. And Ramsey is a big part of the reason why. In his second season, the soon to be 24-year-old racked up four interceptions and 52 tackles to go along with 17 pass defenses. In just his second season, he was selected to the Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro honors.
Editor’s Note: Originally, this article stated that the Jaguars had suspended Ramsey and Fowler for Week 1 of the regular season, not one week of practice and preseason. The Sports Post regrets and apologizes for the error.
