Aaron Ramsey, in between a couple of loan spells, has been with Arsenal since 2008. But is that long, long journey coming to an end? In an interview with the Guardian, Ramsey says his contract offer — one that’s been on the table for weeks — has been rescinded. And while he has no idea why, he hopes to have clarity soon.
“Hopefully somebody will come up and tell me why,” Ramsey told the Guardian (via ESPN’s Arsenal correspondent Mattias Karen). “I’ll accept that if there’s a reason. When the time is right, I probably will find out but that hasn’t happened yet.”
As it stands, Ramsey is the longest-serving Gunner. And believe it or not, he’s still just 27 years old. But it looks like his time in North London might be coming to an end. And if that’s the case, Ramsey is more than happy to move on. But again, it all comes back to communication. The midfielder isn’t asking for much here.
“There is no contract on the table at the moment so there is nothing for me to consider or whatever,” he continues. “We all know that the contract was taken away off the table. I’m not sure exactly why because a few weeks before we sort of agreed and I was ready to sign … Something happened, I am not sure what,” he added.
So that’s fun. In the 340 competitive matches with Arsenal over the years, the Welshman has 59 goals and 60 assists. Plus, he’s coming off arguably the most productive Premier League season of his career (seven goals, 10 assists in 24 matches).
“…So, I just have to get my head down, work hard and help this team as much as I can. We’ll see where that takes me,” he concludes.
Through nine PL matches this season, Arsenal are fourth in the table and sitting on 21 points. They’re also fourth in the league in goal differential (plus-11). And sure, Aaron Ramsey isn’t irreplaceable. We’d never go that far. Still, the club he’s been at for 10 years could do a little bit better of a job at communicating with him.
We’ll see if anything happens in the coming weeks.
