The 2018-19 Champions League is off to a wild start. Lionel Messi got his 8th career UCL hat trick. That’s a record. Mauro Icardi made Tottenham fans said with this ridiculous volley. Christian Pulisic got a goal on his birthday to lead Borussia Dortmund to an opening win. But to close out the afternoon, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino got his goal at the perfect time.
Level at 2-2 in stoppage time, Firmino would get the Reds all three points.

Oh goodness, that’s the stuff. After suffering an eye injury over the weekend against Tottenham, Firmino got the last laugh. And now Liverpool are on three points after their first group match. Beating PSG to get them isn’t a bad way to do it either. The scoreline does flatter PSG, however, as they didn’t really deserve to be in this match at all. But at the end of the day, sometimes things work themselves out.
Firmino made sure of it Tuesday afternoon. And there’s just one more thing…
Roberto Firmino has now scored 12 Champions League goals for Liverpool (incl. qualifying), Steven Gerrard (30) is the only player in Liverpool’s history with more.

Hmm, that seems pretty good. Meanwhile, Liverpool are just one of two clubs (Chelsea being the other) that are on 15 points after five Premier League matches. But it looks like they’re just getting started.
