Most of the time, Lionel Messi is a joy to watch.
And on Tuesday afternoon against PSV, the Barcelona man didn’t disappoint. While Tottenham Hotspur — arguably Barca’s toughest opponent in Group — fell to Inter Milan (2-1) today, the Spanish giants made easy work of PSV. They had to work for it a little bit in the second half, but the end result would be 4-0 to Barcelona. In other words — easy work.
So what’s all this about Messi then? Well, he went and got himself a hat trick, of course. Not just any hat trick, mind you, but his eighth UCL hat trick. For now that’s a Champions League record, breaking a tie with Juve’s Cristiano Ronaldo. And it would start with one heckuva free kick in the 32nd minute.
Even for Lionel Messi this is silly. A giraffe on stilts couldn't have reached this. pic.twitter.com/oGnEhIOiwK

Welp, not much you can do about that. There’s literally nothing you can do about that. But that’s what Messi does.
The rest of the match would be a bit of a grind for Barcelona until the 75th minute. Then Ousmane Dembélé did this and effectively put the match to bed.
In case you're still wondering why Barcelona paid €120M for Ousmane Dembele last summer…

Messi would score twice more before stoppage time and that’s that. Barcelona have a plus-four goal differential after one UCL match. Messi is still brilliant.
In other words, it’s business as usual.
