Brock Lesnar is currently the WWE Universal Heavyweight champion. Meanwhile, Daniel Cormier is a two-belt champion in the UFC. And after Saturday’s win over Derrick Lewis, he holds both the heavyweight and light heavyweight belts. But that’s not enough for Cormier, as it turns out. He wants Brock Lesnar, and he wants him to bring that belt.
“Brock Lesnar, when you come, bring that new WWE title,” Cormier told Joe Rogan after his triumph. “I feel like being a WWE champion, too. Let’s go, Brock. Bring that belt with you if you come to my house.”
You know what, why not? Dana White loves to make money. Brock Lesnar makes money. And a heavyweight bout between the two of them would make plenty of money. Lesnar has just nine UFC bouts to his name, of course. But he is a former heavyweight champion. He won his last two fights before defeating Mark Hunt via unanimous decision. That decision, fair as it might have been, was overturned once the former champion tested positive for clomiphene.
At 41 years old, though, his body does not hold up to the rigors of a UFC regimen. He also suffers from diverticulitis, an intestinal disease. In other words, if the former heavyweight does return it would be on his own terms. It would also likely be on a fight-by-fight basis. White understands that by now.
Which means there’s a good chance we’re going to see Cormier take on Lesnar at some point. And it will undoubtedly be for the heavyweight championship.
